The Power of Two: Hypnotherapy + Self-Acupressure

Case Study #1: Lifelong Driving Anxiety Relieved in One Session

One patient came to me seeking help for lifelong driving anxiety that was significantly affecting her daily life. She often needed to pull over while driving to calm herself and, at times, had even called for emergency assistance due to panic symptoms.

When she first arrived, she was also experiencing chronic knee, foot, and ankle pain, along with a consistently high level of baseline anxiety. She believed her anxiety was primarily caused by being stuck in traffic.

During her hypnotherapy session, we uncovered that the root of her anxiety began in early childhood, around age four, when she regularly experienced fear while riding in the car with a parent who drove at very high speeds. This early nervous system imprint had remained unresolved and continued to drive her anxiety response into adulthood.

By first regulating her nervous system and addressing physical discomfort through self-acupressure, she was able to enter a deep state of relaxation. From there, she processed the original traumatic memory safely and effectively.

After a single session, her driving anxiety significantly decreased, and she reported feeling calmer, more grounded, and more confident while driving. This shift allowed her to resume daily activities with far less fear and distress.

Case Study #2: Releasing Trauma from Overwhelming Grief

A 42-year-old patient sought treatment after feeling unable to move forward following the sudden loss of her mother three years prior. Although time had passed, her grief remained intense and overwhelming, affecting her emotional and physical well-being.

She also reported persistent physical symptoms, including heartburn after meals, difficulty sleeping, and episodes of intense heat at night that disrupted her rest. Emotionally, she described frequent anger, sadness, and emotional volatility that seemed to arise without clear triggers.

From an East Asian medicine perspective, these symptoms were consistent with unresolved emotional heat and stagnation. We worked first on regulating her nervous system and supporting balance through acupressure, then transitioned into hypnotherapy focused specifically on processing unresolved grief.

Before the session, she rated her grief at a 6–9 out of 10. After one session, she reported that the emotional intensity had significantly diminished. Her sleep improved, nighttime heat symptoms resolved, and she felt calmer and more emotionally steady. She described feeling able to remember her mother without becoming overwhelmed for the first time in years.
